Department at a Glance
The
Department of Rural Technology and Social Development was established in the year 2001 with
an aim to carry out teaching & research activities, a major thrust of
which was the overall enlistment of rural artisans. The indigenous knowledge of
the rural people has been utilized by the Department for the creation of
need-based technologies for sustainable rural development. Presently the
department runs professional and job oriented, Bachelor and Master Degree
courses related to Rural Technology with approval of University Grants
Commission, New Delhi. The primary motivation behind running these courses, is
to facilities appropriate development of science and need-based technology for
rural areas.
The Department has established new EDUSAT laboratory and successfully
organized two training programme in last year. New Accelerated Solvent equipment
(ASE 150) installed for innovative research in the filed of medicinal
plant. New remote sensing software ERDAS 2011, ArcPAD, and 21st century GIS were
purchased for Remote Sensing laboratory work and research.
In the Master’s Degree programme six months project work is compulsory. The
Students complete their project work in reputed educational and research
institutes like Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun, Patanjalee
Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar, Regional Research, Laboratory, Jammu & Kashmir,
National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow, Centre of Science of Village,
Wardha, Birla Institute of Technology, MESRA, Ranchi, Deendayal Shodh Sansthan,
Chitrakut (M.P.), Centre of Bio-Genetics Research, Bhopal and Indian Institute
of Natural Gum & Resin, Ranchi. The pass out students of Department were
obtained placement in various government departments as well as
national-international organizations.
