Department of Economics, a pioneering institute Department of Economics of Guru
Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, was established in 1989 with a key focus on capacity
building. The Department has a long tradition of imparting quality education
and conducting in-depth research with special focus on economic issues and
planning. The department has envisioned to produce the best economist through
exploring the economic study & analysis for policy framing and
implementation challenges faced by the Indian and global economy to make a
better society and a better world. We have dedicated faculty members who are
highly efficient and specialized in research, academics and administrative
work. The world economy is facing a relentless crisis in the recent past; the
subprime crisis of 2008, the Euro crisis, and the COVID-19 pandemic have
deepened unemployment and poverty severely. If not addressed properly, this may
increase existing inequalities, and that way break social harmony and increase
tension and turbulence. This makes economics crucial and the most important
discipline. Career opportunities for the students who have specialisation in
economics are: Indian Economic Services, various State and National level
Planning Commission, Banking sector, Academics, PSUs, and Research, etc. It
also encourages students to hold opportunities in various other disciplines.
The department conducts seminars, webinars, conferences, and workshops, apart
from this, the students also do internships. Every year, Students qualify the
UGC-NET and JRF and obtain different Fellowships. Many of our alumni hold
prominent positions in academics, research and administrative spheres across
the country. The department is continuously achieving new heights; students and
alumni are touching the sky of great success. A degree in Economics opens up
vast career opportunities in various sectors in India. Undergraduate (UG)
students can explore careers in banking, financial services, stock markets,
consulting, and data analytics. Post Graduate (PG) students have wide scope in
research, policy making, international business and financial analysis. They
may work with institutions like Reserve Bank of India (RBI), NITI Aayog, World
Bank and private firms in investment banking, risk management and economic
consultancy. PhD holders can enter academia, high-level policy research, and
international organizations.
