The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is one of the oldest departments of the university as well as in this region. It aims at providing trained manpower for print and electronic media and conducting innovative programs in mass Communication.
The Department offers three programmes of Journalism and Mass Communication at UG Level,PG Level and Ph.D Level
The Department invites eminent academician and professionals to interact with faculty and students. Fieldwork, Study tours and publication of annual magazine 'Prayas' and trimonthly newspaper 'Parisar-Warta' are some of the activities organized for the benefits of the students. Ever since its inception, the placement of the students with reputed media and other organisations has been remarkable and the alumni of the department are occupying positions in National print and electronic media.

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication will set global standards for media education, research, training and placement, using media technologies for building a knowledge driven information society, for human development, empowerment and participatory democracy, universal values and ethics.
Mission of the Department
Journalism and Mass Communication plays major role in a democratic society. The department is aspired to develop students as professionals, global leaders and innovators in the field of Mass Communication who may facilitate qualitative and ethical development across all the spheres of Journalism and Mass Communication field.
The aim of the Department is to nurture new ideas, creativity, research and scholarship as well as holistic development among students by providing a dynamic and inclusive learning & working environment so that they can contribute positively and optimally as a Mass Communication professional.
