About us
The Department of Rural Technology and Social Development was established in the year 2001 with the aim to carryout teaching & research activities for overall development of students as well as rural artisans. The indigenous knowledge of the rural people is being utilized by the department for creation of needbased technologies and sustainable rural development. This has been the pioneer department that started job and entrepreneurship oriented Bachelor, Master and Doctoral Degree Programs in Rural Technology with due approval of the UGC- New Delhi, India.
Vision of the Department
Within the process of rural development, social and economic development plays a pivotal role. The most
distinctive feature of social development is to attempt to harmonize social policies with measures designed to
promote economic development. The Department of Rural Technology and Social Development is therefore,
mandated to promote equity and social development in rural areas through research, training, extension and
consultancy services.
Mission of the Department
The basic concern of Department of Rural Technology and Social Development is to prepare professionally committed, competent and skilled human resource, community leaders, practitioners, field workers, rural entrepreneurs, rural administrator, policy planners etc. After Completion of the course the learner will be able to-
To Bridging the Rural- Urban divide viz., social, economic and developmental.
To eradicate poverty and unemployment in rural people.
To overcome the gender gap in education, health and empowerment.
To develop skill to address the challenges with suitable responses for the rural problems.
To enable to develop skill to add employability.
Achievements
The term “Rural Development” is the holistic development of rural areas to improve the standard of living of rural people which is a process that brings about lasting improvement in the lives of rural people especially rural farmers. With this vision, the Department of Rural Technology and Social Development has successfully worked in the field of rural areas.
• Total 9 Teaching staff and 5 Non-Teaching Staff.
• From 2004 to 2023, 20 student got gold medals in UG and PG programs.
• 22 Research Scholars are pursuing Ph.D. and 10 Ph.D. have been awarded.
• From 2017 to 2023, Department has published 73 Research papers.
• From 2017 to 2023, Department has published 25 Book Chapters.
• From 2017 to 2023, Department has filed/published/granted 12 Patents.
• From 2017 to 2023, Department has completed 5 research projects.
• From 2017 to 2023, Department has organized 19 training programs, 01 off campus training program and 4 National conferences.
• Many alumni are working in State and Central Government organizations.
Future Plans
I. Hands-on-training on Wooden Art, Para Art, Mushroom Production, Nadep Compost, Vermicompost, Azola Production, VAM fertilizer, Bonsai Preparation and production of above mentioned products/ articles for students and farmers under Earn While you Learn Scheme
II. Hands-on-training on "Tools, Techniques for Biomedical Research" for M Sc. and Ph.D. students
III. Workshop on "Scientific Writing" for M Sc. and Ph.D. students
IV. Biochemical evaluation of medicinal plants/natural products against heavy metal induced toxicity with special reference to liver, kidney and brain.
V. Establishment of green house for propagation of medicinal and horticulture plants development.
VI. Remote sensing and GIS analysis of different areas of Bilaspur and other district of the state.
VII. Physico-chemical analysis of samples from different sites of coal mines.
VIII. Commercialization of production units of the department like Mushroom Production, Nadep Compost, Vermicompost, Azola Production, VAM fertilizer, Bonsai Preparation.
IX. Launch of value-added course “Mushroom Production Techniques”
X. Launch of certificate course on “Publication Ethics”
XI. Collaboration with IRMA and NGOs
