Guidelines To Participants
ELIGIBILITY, TARGET GROUP AND DURATION:
Faculty members working in universities and colleges under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, even if not under Section 12(B), may participate in orientation and refresher courses. Teachers from colleges affiliated to a university for at least five years may also join. Maximum number of participants: 40.
GURU-DAKSHTA / Faculty Induction Programme (FIP)
Newly appointed Assistant Professors must attend an induction programme within one year of appointment, prior to regularization or confirmation. This programme helps teachers understand administration, classroom realities, and their role as agents of social and national development.
The induction programme is fully residential and lasts for one month. A duration of 25–28 working days is permissible.
Orientation Programmes
For newly appointed lecturers with up to six years of continuous service and teachers needing orientation for promotion. Attendance is required for confirmation. The same course counts for promotion as per UGC norms.
Refresher Courses
Completion of an orientation programme is required before attending a refresher course. A one-year gap is needed between orientation and refresher courses, and between two refresher courses. This may be relaxed in special cases.
Orientation duration: Three weeks, minimum 18 working days and 108 contact hours (6 hours/day, 6 days/week).
Refresher duration: Two weeks, minimum 12 working days and 72 contact hours (6 hours/day, 6 days/week), excluding Sundays. The number of working days must not be compromised.
Eligibility of Part-Time / Ad-hoc / Temporary / Contract Teachers
Teachers who have taught for at least three academic sessions in a recognized institution are eligible to participate, regardless of management type.
Institutional Support
Universities and colleges must support eligible teachers attending UGC-HRDC programmes. If denied, valid reasons must be communicated. These courses ultimately benefit the institutions. Internal adjustments may be made to cover for deputed teachers, but UGC will not provide additional grants for substitutes.
